Giovanna C. Del Sordo

PhD Candidate, Experimental/Cognitive Psychology

New Mexico State University

About me

I am currently a PhD student in experimental/cognitive psychology at New Mexico State University under the advisement of Dr Megan H. Papesh (now at UMass Lowell).

I received a B.S in psychology from Southern Utah University in 2018, and also a B.S. in criminal justice (because why not?). As a master's student at NMSU, my research focus was on the effect of acute pain on learning and memory, and on findings ways to decrease pain perception. I also got a minor from the applied statistics department.

After graduating in 2020, I joined the "Impact of Physical Activity on Health" (IAPS) Laboratory at the University of Toulon (France) as a research statistician. There I collaborated on a wide range of projects primarily concerned with the optimization of sleep, physical activity, and nutrition in children and adults.

I came back to NMSU in 2022 to complete my education and work with Dr Papesh. Here, I am the lab manager for the EMMA (Eye-Movement, Memory, and Attention) lab, where I mentor several undergraduate research assistants. I am also an instructor and teaching assistant  for undergraduate- and graduate-level courses.
